The study of dance at Williams is grounded in the understanding that dance is a universal art form. In the context of a liberal arts education we provide opportunity for students to study technique, choreograph, perform and research ancient and contemporary forms. Our five ensembles—Dance Company, Kusika, The Zambezi Marimba Band, Sankofa and INISH—study and perform on and off campus throughout the academic year. Master classes, workshops, internships, residencies, concerts and collaboration with faculty, peers and guest artists are vital parts of the cultural experiences we offer the community. Classes are available through the Department of Physical Education, and participation in all companies is through audition or invitation by faculty.
