Dance Company presents their Spring Show "Decadance"
Continuing the tradition of past Dance Company performances, the pieces presented in this spring concert will showcase the talents of student choreographers. According to Holly Silva, co-director of Dance Company, student choreography is “an essential part of the educational process of the Dance Program” at Williams College. “We are committed to offering our students the full educational experience of technique, choreography, and composition. Students are encouraged to choreograph as part of their training.” While Silva says there is no defining theme between each of the student’s pieces, the concert will represent an eclectic mix of styles and techniques, as well as interesting music choices.
This semester guest artist Erica Dankmeyer '91 returned to work with Dance Company for six weeks, teaching technique and choreographing a piece for inclusion in the Spring Concert. A Soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company from 1996 - 2006, she performed roles in many ballets and toured extensively both in the U.S. and abroad. She is Artistic Director of Dankmeyer Dance Company, an international collective of New York-based artists who are committed to exploring new visions while honoring their artistic legacies. Dankmeyer is on the faculty of the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, and will return to teach at Williams in spring '08.
“Decadance” will be performed April 27 and 28 at 8 pm in the MainStage of the ’62 Center for Theatre and Dance. Tickets are $3 each. To make a reservation, please contact the Box Office at (413) 597 2425. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday, 1pm-4pm, and 1 hour before each performance.
