Current Season

Tickets are available by calling (413) 597-2425 or by visiting the box office located inside the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance. The box office is open Tuesday-Friday, 1 to 5 PM. Tickets to most Dance Program events are $3 per person, payable by cash or check only. There are no refunds and/or exchanges except for cancelled events not rescheduled or replaced.


Dance Company

October 27, 28 | 8:00 PM | Adams Memorial Theatre

Dance Company is the oldest of the Dance Program's student ensembles and was founded when women joined the student body. Company's fall concert will feature new choreography that students create in collaboration with Artist-in-Residence Marta Renzi. Marta Renzi is well known as a choreographer/filmmaker whose work richly communicates intimate stories of family and community. She is a Williamstown native and has received support for her work from the National Endowment for the Arts as well as the New York Dance and Performance "Bessie" award for choreography.


Sankofa

Sankofa is Williams College's step team, and the fall concert begins a year of celebration marking the team's 10th anniversary. The word Sankofa is from the Akan people of Ghana and loosely translates as "reaching back to move forward." Sankofa will take the stage performing dynamic stepping, chant and skits that are part of the legacy that links contemporary hip-hop with traditions that shaped performance in the last century. This concert will feature alumni performers.


Kusika, The Zambezi Marimba Band & INISH

December 8, 9 | 8:00 PM | MainStage, '62 CTD

This is the first combined concert for Kusika, the Dance Program's African dance and music ensemble; The Zambezi Marimba Band, specialists in Ghanaian and southern African marimba music; and INISH, our traditional and contemporary Irish Dance and music group. The three ensembles will perform traditional and contemporary dance, music and storytelling from Africa, Ireland and the peoples whose cultures are rooted in those places. A not-to-be-missed journey. Enjoy the music, the dance and the adventure!


American College Dance

Festival Association Conference
February 8-11 | '62 CTD

The Williams College Dance Program will host the New England Regional Conference of the American College Dance Festival Association from February 8-11, 2007. ACDFA is the national organization that provides a forum for choreography and scholarly and artistic exchange of ideas in dance. Participants include college and university students and faculty, professional artists, leading choreographers and scholars. Activities will include dance classes, workshops, adjudication concerts and informal performances, along with panel discussions and meetings.


Kusika & The Zambezi Marimba Band

April 6, 7 | 8:00 PM | MainStage, '62 CTD

Kusika and The Zambezi Marimba Band conclude the year with a performance featuring dance and music from Ghana, West Africa. The folklore from this country is an anchor in our study and performance. Artist-in-Residence Spring Semester is Kakraba Lobi, master of the Lobi xylophone tradition from Ghana.


Dance Company

This concert features new choreography from students and faculty, reflecting the broad range of techniques and ideas its members are exploring. As with all of our ensembles, it is also the farewell concert for graduating dancers and choreographers.


Sankofa

Sankofa will close out the Dance Program's concert season in continued celebration of 10 years stepping at Williams. Stepping was created on the campuses of colleges in the United States over 100 years ago by black fraternities and sororities. Join us for concerts that celebrate this history at Williams performed by current members and alumni from the classes of 2000-06.
