INISH

INISH, the Dance Program's newest dance and music ensemble, was founded in the fall of 2004. The word "inish" means both “island” and “to tell” in the Gaelic language. Irish Dance was influenced by the peoples brought to and from Ireland on its surrounding seas and these migrations encouraged communication through the creative arts.

INISH’s mission is to embrace the challenge of creating new work that melds traditional and contemporary dance. INISH members include students and community residents, chosen by audition or invitation. The company performs works by students, faculty and guest artists. INISH also offers lecture demonstrations and Ceile Dance Workshops for the college and local communities.

History, culture and traditions continue to be researched and absorbed as INISH continues to grow at Williams.
