CenterSeries presentsDada Masilo: Giselle
Throwing caution to the wind, Johannesburg-based choreographer Dada Masilo has indelibly remixed the classical French ballet Giselle. Drawing from contemporary idioms and traditional Tswana dance, Masilo responds with a feminist defiance to the constrained beauty of inherited balletic forms. At once subversively personal and majestically timeless, this Giselle reckons with received histories and responds with a resounding dance language of its own. South African composer Philip Miller provides a contemporary score drawn from Adolphe Adam’s iconic original.
